For big game characters, I learned the hard way that printing in one piece often leads to disaster—warped bases, support scars, and that moment when a single weak layer ruins a 30-hour print. So now I almost always cut them into smaller parts, usually along natural armor seams or limb joints, which makes assembly cleaner and sanding far less painful. I found a solid example of a well-sliced model at https://www.gambody.com/premium/flying-bike-tos-stl where the pre-cut parts actually fit together without gaps, and that changed my approach. Just go slow, print each piece with a slight brim, and test-fit before gluing.
